Cape Clear 7 ESB for SaaS

The ‘hosted integration’ model

The next interesting question is: ‘where do these mediations actually live’? Our short answer is that you can readily draw the network boundary in different places on the overall picture. The most common current use case which we see is where the mediations are hosted by the SaaS provider. In this case, all incoming messages go to the same endpoint (per transport), at which time they are segmented and routed to the appropriate mediations based on client identity, target service etc. This is the ‘hosted integration’ model. Over time, it is likely that SaaS providers will only host these mediations where one or more of the following is true:

  • The mediation is strategic: multiple clients will likely want to use the same or a similar instance of it (eg key XML dialects, SWIFT transformations in financial services etc.)
  • The customer is strategic and/or pays for the creation, customization, or ongoing hosting of the mediation.
